Disaster Management Cycle: mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, and rehabilitation.
Concept of disaster preparedness and awareness.
Preparedness for earthquake, flood, landslide, accidental fire, and other accidents.
Early warning systems, evacuation, emergency communication, and emergency kits.
Disaster response: search and rescue, emergency shelter, food, water, sanitation, and first aid.
Disaster recovery, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, Build Back Better.
Crisis management and disaster risk reduction strategies.
Role of educational institutions and community in disaster management.
Objectives of the Course
To introduce students to the basic concepts of hazard, risk, vulnerability, and disaster.
To develop an understanding of different types of natural and man-made disasters.
To familiarize students with disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery.
To acquaint students with the institutional and legal framework of disaster management in India.
To develop awareness about community participation, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction.
