Assam down town University (AdtU) recently hosted a special workshop dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Chiya Geet, an ancient and significant folk musical tradition from Assam's Darrang district. Organized under the initiative of the Programme of Performing Arts, with support from Assistant Professor Mr. Hirak Jyoti Das, the event aimed to reconnect students with this valuable cultural heritage that is gradually fading from contemporary memory. Students actively participated in the sessions, engaging directly with the art form and contributing to its ongoing preservation efforts. The workshop featured prominent folk artists: Smt. Hiranyaprabha Nath Baideu, recognized as the first Chiya Geet artist by All India Radio, served as the Chief Trainer, alongside Guru Bhadrakanta Nath Dev, a distinguished guru of folk music. This initiative underscores AdtU's commitment to fostering environments where cultural heritage is not only remembered but actively learned, practiced, and carried forward by future generations.
